After receiving my results from my life insurance indicating that I was pre-diabetic I sought out a second opinion. I made an appointment with Dr. Ali M. Safa at the Endocrine and Diabetes center. I had two appointments with him. Both visits at the center, the staff was amazing! My 2 star rating is a result of Dr. Ali Safa. Both times the Dr was very distant and non personable. The second visit was the worse. Upon entering his office, he remained seated and turned to me and held his hand out directing me to sit in the chair. I said "Morning Dr." He said Morning. He then pulls my results up and says "well not much change since your last visit you have to get this under control" baffled, I asked what do you mean. He then asked me date of birth and realized it was the wrong results. I thought to myself if he would have greeted me and actually had a conversation he would have known I wasn't that person. None the less he pulled my record and proceeded to go thru the results with me (or to himself aloud as I didn't get anything) he ended with "You're A1C is X% which should be lower than X%. You are in the pre-diabetic range. He then looks up at me and sees my facial expressions and says "Your bloodwork is good just A1C is high." He turns to his computer and begins typing. Every couple of words he would say something like "I'm prescribing this medicine." "Also your vitamin D is low" never any additional information. So I began asking him questions. "Is there a way I can prevent or correct this?" Dr. Safa tells me to stand up and place my hand on my pelvic and breast bone. He then says "loose that and you will be fine" meaning loose my stomach. I was sooo irritated by that but skilled and sat down because I needed to understand what this diagnosis meant. I then asked if he had any literature that I could read, he directed me to his website. I then asked if there were side effects. He sighed and turned to me and rattled off a list and ended with me not to worry. Long story short the rest of the appointment consisted of me asking questions trying to understand what being pre-diabetic means and how I needed to change my life. Unfortunately none of this came from him it came from Google. To have spent $80 in less than a week and still leave having to do my own research upsets me. The straw that broke the camels back for me was when I asked him how do I take the meds, he then proceeds to drawing a chart. Top row labeled breakfast/dinner the column broken down into weeks. Dr. Safa than draws circles in each box. The circles represented pills I needed to take for breakfast and dinner. He hands me the paper. I then ask how long do I have to take these? Well you retest me at any point he says yes in 3 months and walks me to the front. I asked the lady who checked me out, was he having a bad day or is this how he is all the time she said no but was a little hesitant. I paid my final co-pay and left. 1 week later I went to another doctor with my blood work and she decided against prescribing me anything since I have lost 18 pounds between the two blood works. And actually sat and told me things to watch for, suggested sugar counts etc. And told me that it could be high due to my juicing using to much fruit. In all fairness I didn't go into detail about my visit with Dr. Safa. Dr. Safa would have known this as well if he would have engaged in a conversation with me or actually read/compared my results instead of simply collecting a co-pay and prescribing meds. I would NOT recommend Dr. Safa.
