I would give 0 stars if I could. What a quack. At our FIRST session, she lets my partner talk for 3/4 of the session without stopping, then she turns to me and tells me she doesn't think that I'm going to change. I asked her why she would let someone talk for that long and she said she doesn't stop people from talking. Wow. I guess she missed that part in counseling where you talk to both parties. She made some judgmental statements about me and my family. Then she put me on the spot for not stating my name when I shook hands with her. What a quack. Thank God this arose at our first session. I wouldn't have wanted to waste my time or money to discover this later.

Marian Maynard has been an excellent family therapist for myself and my adopted son. She listens carefully and responds appropriately to our specific concerns. She has been a big help guiding us in the right direction to a more harmonious family dynamic. I highly recommend Marian Maynard.

I went and saw Marian as a client for about a year. Throughout that time I came to her to hopefully relieve a phobia I had for quite a while. When I first came to her I told her that I would like to go outside the office and deal with the fear itself, but after months of brushing the question off, she told me that she didn't want to go out and to just talk. After deciding to quit seeing her, I was at a better state when it came to dealing with my phobia, but I still felt uncomfortable in a situation that had my fears involved. From her visits though, I can say that the other topics that we talked about pertaining to my insecurities turned me into a much more confident version of myself today.

I have had experience with counselors, and had good results for various issues. It has been my experience that therapists are good listeners and help you come up with concrete plans for progress. Marian did not understand what my partner and I were saying, despite multiple attempts from each of us. Instead, she "paraphrased" our statements inaccurately and added in her own opinions and concerns. My partner and I would look at each other in confusion, as neither of us had heard what she stated we had said. Nor did she help us come up with a plan to work on our issues. The session just ended when the time was up; she left us with advice to "start every day anew." It was frustrating to hear that after an hour's failed attempts to session left us further apart than when we came in. I'm just glad we figured that out and got help from a more skilled therapist.
