I was a young teenager when my mother brought me into her therapy session and blindsided me without telling me I was there to see him. Essentially I was told to follow her rules and do what she says. I was so mortified, scared, and confused, as I had good grades and was respectful most of the time. However, my mother was the one with majore issies, and I had finally begun to stand up and protect myself and my siblings. After that session I withdrew and just took the abuse until I escaped to college and never returned home. I did get help and have processed through the issues, but looking back, if Dr. Feldman had just taken the time to actually talk to me one on one (without my mother present) he might have discovered what was really happening in the home. Since this happened many years ago, I'm sure he has had an opportunity to grow and learn, but if writing this helps anyone in the profession remember to talk to th children one on one, then it has served a good purpose.
