Manor Care Silver Spring is one cleanest nursing homes that I have been too. The staff are friendly and go out of their way to make the residents feel like family not a just a medical chart. My father was a resident in the facility prior to him passing away and my aunt lives their now. My family and I would like to thank the nursing staff on all shifts who provide care.

My husband was at this facility for hospice care. The place is extremely clean. My concerns was the overall care of my husband. He developed bed sores, was not turned frequent enough. As a hospice resident his care was poor, with the exception of his GNA who took great care of him, keeping him clean, dressed, and doing what she could to make him comfortable. I would not recommend this facility to anyone, sure it's pretty, clean but the care for my love one, I'm only expressing about the care of my love was not good. I daily visited my husband at least 3 times a day, since he was only 5 minutes away, to make sure that he was taken care of and treated with dignity and respect. Unfortunately, my husband died at this facility 7 months ago after a short stay for a month. I plan on advocating for the rights, treatment and concerns of nursing homes/hospice care residents.

Many staff members were very helpful and professional. The receptionists (especially V and S) were happy to see people and greet them with a smile. All the therapists were always professional and knew their area of expertise inside-out. My friend was with the speech therapist only 1 time when she returned and clearly and audibly spoke with us. They were very positive people who clearly wanted her to succeed. However, in general, the environment was dingy and not that clean. It needed a paint job and the lightening needed to be improved so that we could actually read and talk with our friends and family without squinting. When we made the mistake of asking the social worker a question to clarify her explanation, she immediately became very angry and defensive. People who are trying to admit loved ones to a nursing home need someone professional and someone who understands the grief and worry they may be feeling. At the very least, their questions should be answered and not ignored. Also people who are in nursing homes and receiving rehab services, may need to ring their bell to get help in reaching a glass of water, being helped into a chair, or finding out why they have been waiting for a long time. It is not correct to chastise a client who asks for what the facility is supposed to do. We found so many of the staff to be caring and professional; it was the few bad apples who made life harder.
