I went to Dr. Blackiston for a very long time. All was fine until I got an abcess after he gave me a root canal. I got a horrible abcess over the weekend. I called his office and left messages, but no one returned my calls (obviously no one checks messages until Monday morning). I was at his office first thing that Monday morning with my face swollen on one side as big as a golf ball (no exaggeration). Since I am allergic to Pinicillin and Clindamycin, he prescribed a Z-pac and told me it probably wouldn't help at all being how bad the infection was. He made an attempt at drawing some of the infection out, but the infection was so bad that all it did was make the pain worse. He sent me home saying that I would probably need to see a specialist, but would wait to see how the Z-pac worked. Come Wednesday, no one from his office had made an attempt at checking on me and when I called to say it had not gotten any better I was told to take some over the counter meds (Ibuprofen) to ease the pain, and was not referred to anyone to help me. I went to get the meds and, thankfully, ran into a girl who worked for another dentist. She noticed how bad my abcess was and asked me what my dentist was doing to help me. When I told her, she expressed her concern of how dangerous abcesses are (which, I already knew because a co-worker's husband died last year from one at a very early age) and said I should get it taken care of before the weekend. I went to the dental office where she worked that day (she called and got me in) and was told by the dentist I should not let this go over the weekend and that it was only going to get worse. He got me into a specialist the next day and I felt relief that evening! Being that Dr. Blackiston admitted that he didn't think the Z-pac would help at all, why would he not go ahead and get me some help? When Dr. Blackiston did my root canal one of the chambers did not seal, so it caused the infection. When I contacted Dr. Blackiston's office to see if they could possibly help out with the additional cost of me having to get my root canal fixed by a specialist, Dr. Blackistion called me back with attitude saying that he could give me a couple hundred dollars to help me out with the cost, but that he'd rather me come back to him to get the final filling from where the specialist had re-did the root canal. Since then, I have ran into him twice and he turns his head like he does not want to face me...I assume he is embarrassed. Not only have I had the issue of his work turning into a mess, but a co-worker of mine has had to see a specialist & have surgery from infection after work he did work on her. He had pulled one of her teeth and did not prescribe antibiotics. She got an infection and her entire face on one side had infection all in it. The specialist she went to see could not understand why no antibiotics were prescribed to her. I will never, ever go to him again! Number one, because of his lack of concern for his patients, number two, his attitude stinks if he messes up, and number three, if you have problems over the weekend, you have no one to contact...when you have a tooth-ache, every minute seems like an eternity!
