My parents divorced when I was very young and one of my parents has a personality disorder, leaving me with a lingering ,chronic, mild depression and waves of anxiety throughout my adulthood. Every couple of years I would try a few sessions with another therapist hoping the counselor's insight would bring me to greater self discovery and that through cognitive behavioral therapy I would be able to make some positive changes stick... but in all honesty I ran into some sincerely unhelpful counselors. In my experience with counseling I was almost ready to draw the conclusion so many do -- that those who study psychology need counseling more than any other group of people. Then, in 2012 I suffered a miscarriage, a suicide in the family and ultimately my own personal divorce. I needed help... badly.

The thing that makes Karl different, in my experience, is that he is deeply rooted in data. Where other counselors would respond to my tales of misery with, "Oh honey, you deserve better than that." Karl would talk in terms of recognizing patterns, uprooting specific behaviors from a mystifying jumble of emotions, and --perhaps my favorite thing about him--he would always give it to me straight. If what I was doing was unhealthy he would tell me. He's kind and tactful and ultimately always retains his client's well being as his priority, but he is effective because he tells the truth about what he sees with 27 years of experience to back it up.

Not every counselor is for everyone, I've learned that. But if you want someone who understands the human dynamic, is patient, rational, kind, honest and experienced, go to Karl. The boost he gave me in getting a leg up on my new life is the gift that keeps on giving.

Extremely friendly, disarming personality. Excellent relaxing bedside manner. Always encouraging despite setbacks. Feel like part of a team with a coach instead of a patient with an authoritative physician.

I couldn't believe how knowledgeable and well-informed the staff was. They were able to answer all my questions, except the ones they needed to have their boss's input on. It was great to be able to talk to such a skilled staff. They were so easy to reach in an emergency, they answered my call immediately. It is a relief to know that I can count on them to always be there for me when I need them the most. I knew I was getting top-of-the-line treatment when they told me about what they learned at the latest conference they attended, and how they were incorporating that knowledge into the practice.
