I had to take a court ordered substance abuse evaluation, and through google I found the Banyan Group. It was the closest to my house and figured these places had to be pretty much the same. They're not. I was pulled over in orlando and a bag of pot in the car, 2 grams. It was a bad time in my life, I had never used illegal drugs before, and I had only been smoking pot on and off for two months. So I go in to see Richerd. $130 later he tells me to come in again. So another $130 and he tells me with a straight face..."I can see you made a stupid mistake. You're cogent, responsive, alert, focused, don't have the shakes, don't abuse drugs or alcohol and are obviously in a much better place in your life than you were when you got arrested. My original thought was that you're cleared...good to go. But on thinking about it a little more, I think that your defenses are up. So I'm going to suggest you come for 6 counseling sessions." He says a little more, blah blah blah, and then spits this gem out, "Actually, I think you should come in for twelve therapy sessions." Between him telling me I was good to go and telling me I needed twelve weekly counseling sessions I literally didn't say a word. So here's the scoop. Richerd is the executive director of the banyan group, as well as its founder. So he calls the shots. And he wants your money. He's a crook, pure and simple. The guy has a Masters in social work. He's not a professional by any stretch of the imagination. He's akin to a shifty auto mechanic telling you that you NEED this and this and this and this when you go in for an oil change. Only my oil change was court ordered. Needless to say, I've spoken to my lawyer and he will be drafting a letter to Mr. Richerd tomorrow telling him basically that he is abusing and exploiting my client (me).

Richerd Whittemore is a crook. Avoid the Banyan Group.
