In Nov. 1996 I developed full blown AIDS. I found Dr. Jemsek, an infectious disease specialist in the phone book. He saw me the next day after I called. I was dying. I had lost more than 30 pounds in 3 weeks at 36 years old. He took me in, examined me, did the labs and sent me to the drugstore with a fistful of prescriptions. Dr. Joseph Jemsek SAVED MY LIFE. It is now 22 years later and I still take antivirals but the meds he gave me that day stopped the HIV virus, which I lab tested at a viral load count of 234,000 and a CD4 count of 38, dermatitis, CMV, diarrhea, vomiting, fever, oral leukoplakia, candidiasis albicans, esophageal ulceration and hepatomegaly. I will ALWAYS love Dr. J. He is a hero to me. I could write a book here about how much Dr. Jemsek CARES about his patients, listens to them, acts quickly, tells you what he is doing and why, what chance he thinks you have to live or die if you insist it of him and does everything he can think of to heal, save and ameliorate the infectious diseases that he treats, even to the point where it got some patients and lawyers unhappy that he cared more for his patients than he did for the "letter of the law". Medicine is an ART as well as science. Dr. Jemsek is both a scientist and an artist. I am personally angry that this man, a gift to humanity was persecuted for trying to help extremely ill people in Charlotte and am very glad Dr. Jemsek is practicing his art and science for those so ill in the Washington DC area. The LORD bless you Dr. Jemsek! YOU SAVED MY LIFE and 22 years later I will still tell ANYONE that needs the BEST care there is for infectious diseases to make an appt. with Dr. Joseph Jemsek! He is the BEST! I love you Dr. Jemsek. You were my physician. Most of all you were my FRIEND! And THAT is a quality in a man of Dr. Jemsek's caliber that is a RARE quality indeed!
