The difference between addiction counseling and recovery coaching

Addiction Counseling
Addiction counseling at Recovery Consulting Service, focuses on helping the patient maintain sobriety during the first few weeks and months of early recovery. The usual topics could include dealing with cravings, establishing boundaries, building support, education on the disease of addiction, relapse prevention, and managing feelings. Sessions can occur several times a week, once a month, or anything in between depending on need. The main goal here is learning to avoid substance abuse on a daily basis.

Recovery Coaching
Recovery coaching takes a longer view with the emphasis on maintaining a quality recovery lifestyle. The goal is to decrease the risk of relapse by improving overall emotional wellness. Coaching will often address issues such as relationships, finances, employment, as well as living with purpose, passion and peace through the art of struggle reduction. Sessions occur one time per week or bi-monthly for up to a year or longer
