I went to Steve Hoekstra for professional help, and instead I was hurt in the worst way possible. He gained my trust for years, and used empathy and compassion to do it. Then, my trust was broken by him by being unprofessional and unethical. There were some red flags I missed prior that appeared innocent, such as boundary violations. For example, as a college age female I was told that my family of origin did not give me comfort, and he took it upon himself to teach me comfort through very close, lengthy hugs, and holding me. He also chose to come to my home for me to complete paperwork rather than me coming to his office. These types of boundary violations resulted in a final blow that hurt me worse than anyone in life has hurt me. He knew my past history and used it to hurt me, He is a very scary man that comes across as the most wise, caring counselor, but turned out to be a wolf in sheep's clothing. I never thought that the person I went to for help would be the very person who would hurt me so deeply.

When I saw the review in a medical site that called Steve a wolf in sheep's clothing I thought that person was crazy. Then it happened to me. Steve pretended to care FOR YEARS. He gained my trust, then he used it to hurt me in my deepest wound. He caused so much pain and hurt in my life. I think he likes to watch people suffer. He went from caring to completely cold-hearted. Unlike the person in the other review who required 2 years of therapy to undo the damage he caused, I will not go to therapy to undo the damage done. I refuse to trust another therapist after this traumatic experience.
