About

Kathleen Allen, Licensed Professional Counselor

In private practice since 1998, I’ve counseled families, children, individuals, teachers, first responders, veterans, and law enforcement using Cognitive/Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, HeartMath, and Play Therapy.

With extensive training in neuropsychology and body-psychology techniques, I empower others to access the center of their mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual selves.

I help people heal from issues with experiences of grief, trauma, and end-of-life transitions.

I work with clients online and in-person, and would love to schedule your first appointment.

DEVELOPMENTAL & CHILDHOOD TRAUMA
You may feel that your life wasn’t hard enough to create trauma. But trauma happens within any context.

You may think, “What’s wrong with me that it affected me so much? Why am I so weak?”

Or perhaps you tell yourself that there are so many people who had it much worse.

I’m here to let you know that just because your experiences may not be as severe as some you can imagine, that doesn’t mean they weren’t traumatic for you.

There’s no comparing pain.

The tendency to compare and think you should be stronger is universal. My goal in therapy is to give your emotions a space to exist. You don’t need anyone’s permission to feel the way you do.

ADULT TRAUMA & PTSD

Perhaps you’ve put in the work but still feel as if your trauma, or PTSD isn’t done with you.

Or it makes you think you won’t be able to do something, achieve something.

Maybe you’re afraid to disclose that you have PTSD, or afraid that it is taboo and you will be seen as unstable.

On top of all that, the current uncertainty in the world with COVID and shifts in our culture can make PTSD episodes more likely.

I want to support you.

In our counseling sessions I will hold a space for your trauma and guide you to work through it to find healing.

GRIEF

Perhaps you feel you don’t know how to live a happy life without the person you lost. You don’t know how to move forward from this and be okay.

You still remember them so clearly. You don’t think you’ll ever forget.

You still think of things you wish you could tell them.

Many things lead to the unclosed circle of grief; the death of a loved one, a loss of identity, a broken relationship, or loss of a friend due to mental illness or addiction.

Your relationship doesn’t end because that person is not here with you anymore.

I can help you work through those unfinished feelings and find closure within yourself.

END-OF-LIFE TRANSITIONS

No words can describe the experience ahead of you when facing the dying process. I am trained to help patients and loved ones navigate this whole process.

Perhaps you just wish you had more time, and wish that you didn’t take the time you had for granted.

Maybe nothing feels like it’s enough, like you can’t squeeze enough into those final days.

When all you want is to allow passage with dignity, and without pain or discomfort.

With a sense of peace.

I am here to counsel patients, family, and loved ones faced with the process of dying who are in palliative or hospice care, or have received a terminal diagnosis and are facing the end-of-life transition.
