They provided speach therapy for my son at Achieve Hearing & Rehabilitation for a little over a year. Initially Michael Gehan, used different audiology apparatus to do what appeared to be a through auditory/speech evaluation. He wrote up a detailed report of his assessment along with his wife Amy, who is a speech pathologist.

They had all sorts of ICD-9 coded diagnosis, justifying how necessary their approach and treatment was. They detailed wild range of auditory and speech deficits, and claimed in about a year or so we would see wild improvements with my son's speech disorder if we used their services. They also clamied their approach is not just speech therapy, rather a new, technologically advanced method addressing both hearing and speech deficits.

Well unfortunately, nothing was further from the truth! They just provided the same old speech therapy that everyone else does, nothing more. All that initial fancy diagnosis was pointless and my son's supposed auditory deficit was never addressed. He was never reevaluated again with Michael to see where he stood compared to his initial presentation. As a matter of fact he was seeing another speech specialist at Children's Medical and he was showing more improvement at Children's than he was at Achieve hearing!

Also, while Michael seemed to be a nice guy (we met him only once and never again), his wife Amy is very money hungry. I remember once we fell behind two weeks on our copays because we were waiting for our flexcare spending card from my job. Well, Amy rushed to the front door next time we showed, and she had a rather nasty conversation with my wife threatening to stop services if we didn't pay immediately. We were in time with our payments after that!

They also use a dirty tactic to generate more money at the expense of their patients. Instead of offering 1 hour of speech like other speech pathology do, they only do 30 minutes each session (in reality 20 minutes total), charging the same amount and collecting the same copay. That way they can see two patients in 1 hour instead of just one. They made up this bs reason of how 30 minutes is the most effective way of giving speech therapy and that one hour is too much and this and that!

They also stopped their services cold turkey when they thought our insurance company might not cover speech anymore! Insurance companies always try to get out of paying services, but Achieve Hearing folks never helped us convince the insurance that our son needs speech treatment. They never went back and forth with them even a little. They just thought that was too much of a hastle and stopped giving therapies. They didn't care. Again, this kind of stuff happens when your purpose is generating money instead of helping a needy child.

I understand that everyone has to make a living, and there is nothing wrong by having your business and be successful at it; however, when you are in business of helping children with disorders and your purpose is ONLY to make money at what ever cost, then you are not really helping our kids anymore. You are helping yourself.

Well after sending the needed documents to our insurance company they accepted to cover speech again, but we would never go back to Michael and Amy.
Give yourself a favor and find another speech therapist. There are plenty of good ones in DFW, all eager to help. Don't give up hopes. Peace.
