I had to have 24 hr care for my cat who needed an IV and my own vet was not able to provide this over the weekend. The vet who was on duty when I brought the cat in was wonderful. She was available, reassuring and comforting. Then the shift changed and the second vet was cold, aloof and would not come out and talk to me when I went to pick up my cat. I had to talk to techs. I was reassured she was eating, but when I got her home she wouldn't eat (which was one reason I had her at the vet to begin with). The situation was she was not eating, no longer had iv fluids, and had to have an antibiotic and thyroid medication and wouldn't take that by mouth. I called back to get some advice and the vet on call would not talk to me and the person answering the phone said I could bring the cat back if I wanted to. So, a very mixed experience there.

I first would like to say that I am very glad this Emergency Care Vet Clinic is hear for us during the hours my Vet is not available. On an occasion, my cat suffered a seizure and passed away. The staff was very caring and compassionate. Just last year (9/2012), I had to bring my Bella in for the entire weekend. She was suffering from Kidney Failure due to Lyme's Disease. I was not happy that she had to be moved from my Vet in Poughkeepsie, but again, I am glad the option was available. There are 2 large complaints that I had: 1, is that the staff knew that Bella was quite critical, and I was very concerned & visually upset. I did not get a lot of reassurance that she would be cared for in the way she was with my Vet. 2. is that the cost is almost prohibitive for anyone to afford to bring an animal in! I was told with one of my cats that it would be $125 to just examine the animal! For Bella it was $800 for the weekend. That included medications. Bella passed away a couple of days after we picked her up From the Kingston Center. They were in NO WAY responsible for her passing, but I do feel that she could have had better care while she was a patient there. I know this must be a very difficult line of work, but please know that just a few kind words of encouragement go a long way. Thanks You.
