Beware cat lovers!

I will never go back to Cruz Animal Shelter! I was so upset by the rough treatment of my cat and I truly have no idea how he got his license. I received many reccomendations for Dr. Cruz by both dog and cat owners but am just now hearing confirmations of what I experienced: terrible bedside manner for cats.

The front office staff were friendly, I have no problems there except that they did not tell me my prescription food was on backorder.

We went into the office for our very first visit. "Kitty" was anxious and just needed a routine checkup. Dr. Cruz had two students or assistants here to help and before they could let the scared cat become adjusted, an assistant reached right into her carrier and yanked her out by the scruff. She growled and hissed accordingly. That set the tone of the entire visit. I have never heard such agonizing, loud screams come out of her. I almost cried in the office because she has never been so uncomfortable. Her past vet got to know her and handled her gently. This man teaches his staff to manhandle.

If it weren't bad enough to watch your beloved pet cry out in terror, Dr. Cruz spoke over us every chance we spoke, whether it was to try to tell him why we were here, "Kitty's" background and home temperament, anything. His response was always that we were wrong. And get this: when "Kitty" managed to get off the table and hide, he asked us to pick her up. We got down and soothed her, and put her back on the table. Then he said, "You know why I know she's bad? Because even you are afraid to pick her up. You're afraid she'll bite you. And she will." WHAT?! We assured him that what we were doing was giving her a second to realize it's just us before we pick her up, but Dr. Cruz insisted she is wild, and that we need to teach her who's boss.. My husband was calming her down on the table, petting her,and the doctor then said, "and all you're doing now is rewarding her bad behavior!"

There was no way we were going to stay a moment longer. Going to the vet should not be a traumatizing experience and I paid $75 to have this monster give my pet a reason to hate the vet in under 5 minutes.
