I saw Dr.Karp regularly for a few years. Progressively things started to go down hill. Punctuality was never a strong emphasis but little by little my visits got longer because I was being seen after patients that arrived after me. I was about at my last straw when one visit I arrived for a two pm "appointment", person after person kept being called ahead of me. Keep in mind I was on a first name basis with all the staff, every time they called back another patient I was sitting there and they saw me. Finally at 5 all of the office staff said their good-byes, turned off the lights and left out the back door. I was left in the waiting room!!! I walked out and NEVER went back!!

1. He always ran late. As much as 3 hours or more. I was never ever seen anywhere close to my appointment time. I couldn’t ever image bringing my children here and having to wait that long.
2. Even though He and his staff knew the wait times were ridiculous he did nothing to make your wait time more bearable. His waiting room was always hot, he had no music, no free Wi-Fi, no T.V., the ceiling fan was spinning the wrong way pulling the air up instead of blowing it down, etc………
3. It would take 2-3 hours to get blood drawn which only took 5 minutes to do.
4. One time after waiting for over 2 hours I finally was brought to the back only to have the Dr. Nelson leave the clinic without telling anyone. After approx. an hour I asked what was going on and the staff informed me that he had left. They told me to leave and grab a bite to eat and/or shop and they would call me when he returned. After 2 hours I hadn’t received a call so I called them and they said he has been back. Why didn’t they call me like they said they would once he returned?
5. I’ve had follow up appointments were after I’ve waited hours to only be told that the lab results weren’t there to be reviewed.
6. They never return calls no matter how many messages you leave or call when they said to call.
7. Once I needed to get prior approval from the TRICARE for a medication that he prescribed. I gave the TRICARE letter to one of his nurses who stated that she had some others to submit and noted it wouldn’t be a problem. I waited a couple of days and decided to call to confirm its submission and approval due to the cost of the medication. I tried for days to call this nurse for confirmation with no luck. I left messages every time and never got a call back. I would call 3-4 times a day at the times the receptionist told me to call with no luck. I finally went in to confront her and she said it had been dined because my current lab results were over the minimum amount to qualify. Mean while my current subscription of this medication that have been taken for months ran out and now I have nothing. Why didn’t they call to inform me of the denial so that the Dr. Karp could prescribe a substitute medication? Also, if I had just went to the pharmacy I would have been eventually charged for the full amount of the medication.
8. He would book appointments for 8:30 when he didn’t arrive to after 9:30 on a good day.
9. He blocks his appointments a half hour apart knowing that he takes on average 2 hours per patient easily from the time they report to the time they leave. My heart would just sink when I pulled into his parking lot and there was more than one car there.
10. He would always requests excessive labs and strange tests.
11. He would send some labs to Lab Corp which was covered by TRICARE and some to Atherotech which was not. He would do this even though I requested that he only uses Lab Corp.
12. He has fired his entire staff twice since in the past year due to incompetence and lack of customer service.
13. Referrals would take over 14 days to get submitted if they were even submitted at all.
14. On one occasion I came in at 9:00 for an appointment to give blood for a lab and after an hour and a half waiting I was informed there was no one to draw the blood so I need to reschedule. I already paid my co pay for this visit and was told it would be applied to my next appointment.
Lastly I was being scheduled for a surgery at Sentara. I great difficulty getting them to submit the need referrals that Sentara needed. His staff was very rude and unwilling to work with me resulting with me call TRICARE for their help. The final straw was when they called me to cancel an appointment that I had with them. I called to reschedule, but no one was answering. I went by the clinic and it was closed with a note taped to the door saying they would be “closed until further notice.” This is unsatisfactory. Here I am with a surgery scheduled in the next 2 weeks. I also had subscriptions that were running out because he would never fill out scripts with refills on them requiring me to come back every month. And because of the some of my medications I needed to get instructions on how to proceed with dosages before and after the surgery. I don’t have access to my medical record and no one is answering the phone at the clinic even though I see cars parked there as I drive by. The last time I drove by I saw that they updated the sign to say that they are renovating and will be open soon. Dr. Karp should have given his patients a heads up to what was going to happen giving his patients the time and opportunity to seek assistance from other providers. I FEEL BECAUSE OF THE EXCESSIVE OFFICE VISITS, LAB TESTS, AND WEIRD TEST REQUESTS THAT HE IS TAKING ADVANTAGE OF VETERANS AND THE GOVERNMENT. I SHOULD HAVE READ OTHER ONLINE REVIEWS OF DR. KARP AND HIS PRACTICE BEFORE I PICKED THEM FOR MY PRIMARY CARE MANAGER. OVER ALL THIS HAS BEEN MY WORST EXPERIENCE WITH A CLINIC AND I FEEL FOR ALL THE ELDERLY PATIENTS THAT WHERE BEING SEEN THERE ESPECIALLY MY FELLOW VETERANS. HE SHOULDN’T BE AN OPTION FOR VETERANS OR THEIR FAMILIES.
