Dr. Kozak performed my L5-S1 TLIF (fusion) surgery in December 2010. He diagnosed the problem, gave me an accurate outlook for my recovery and then delivered exactly what he said he would. He will not sugar coat anything and provide nothing but the facts to his patients along with his experience, even if the truth is painful, as it was in my case. This surgery ended my career as a firefighter but I knew that before he performed the surgery. Even though the recovery was agonizing and long, I am glad I choose him to perform this surgery. My back will never be whole again but this surgery has increased my quality of life more than words can describe. Don't let his cowboy boots make you think he is unprofessional.....that is just his thing. Every doctor has a thing, I suppose. His billing department can be difficult to deal with at times but I would recommend him regardless. He knows what he is doing and he does it well. I love how attentive he was as his full attention was always on me and it made me feel special. He is very detail-oriented and also very particular about films (x-rays/MRI). He will more than likely order his own set of films. The x-ray department staff was very kind, warm, and professional. My hospital stay was prolonged due to some minor complications regarding post surgery pain management but he never rushed and made sure I was given adequate meds and care. The nursing staff was outstanding and very caring. He checked in on me daily, sometimes even twice a day. I was so impressed with the progress I was able to make after he performed the surgery. All my questions and concerns were addressed and I feel a lot more confident and hopeful about the future. I've already told former coworkers about the fantastic experience I had there. I retired from the fire department according to his recommendation not because I was unable to perform my job anymore but more so to prevent future spinal damage. Thank you Dr. Kozak for giving me back my life!!
