The original concept for the Natural Body Lifestyle Center was born from two observations: strong trend among women to not only cover up perceived imperfections with cosmetic products but to actually improve the quality of one's skin, hair and body and a strong trend among men to recognize that a youthful and healthy appearance was beneficial to one's career and personal life coupled with the recognition that concern about appearance was not unmasculine. 2) While there were some retail stores focusing on body, bath, skin and hair care products (although mostly of one product line) and there were day spas coming into existence, no company was attempting to combine a retail store concept (which carried many different cutting edge product lines) with a day spa (which marketed itself to both women and men) to permit the symbiosis to grow between the retail store and day spa to allow each to feed on the other's strengths. Customers of the day spa invariably like the idea that their spa therapist can walk with them into a pleasurable retail environment and introduce them to products that produce the results desired. Likewise, customers of the retail store like the idea that as their initial interest in natural body, bath, skin or hair care products grows they can comfortably be introduced into the benefits of spa therapy. The success since 1989 of the Natural Body Lifestyle Center in Atlanta, Georgia and the recent initial successes of its new franchisees has borne out the truth of market receptivity for this combined retail store and day spa concept.
