I will update this review on a very regular basis see if there is any resolution to our difficulties with Dr. Meyer and his staff. My purpose is to keep people informed of the difficulties the man and his office have created in the life of a patient, whom is a dear friend of mine and for whom I am his medical power of attorney. After 3 years of treatment by Dr. Maher, we cannot get this doctor to turn over my friend’s medical records.

NEW INFORMATION: Dr. Leo Maher spends hundreds of thousands of dollars per year NOT to use computerized medical records. Isn’t that curious? If you want to know why, try getting your medical records from him after being a patient of his for years.

My friend has been an MS patient of this man since 2018. With no medical success from his treatment, and finally researching Dr. Maher's reputation, he found an extremely competent doctor with a wonderful reputation to move on to another treatment path.
As part of the transfer process to the new doctor, we have repeatedly tried to obtain his complete medical records from Dr. Maher’s office, which they are legally bound to produce within 16 days from the date of written request. They are refusing to turn over more than records of his last 2 visits!
Repeated fax requests and phone calls from the patient, his new doctor's office and myself have produced no results. I have warned his office that we will take this issue to the Medical Board of Hawaii, to which they responded in a recorded voicemail, which I have retained, “Go ahead and call the board!”

The Medical Board of Hawaii, does not have subpoena power, but that is not a difficult hurdle to cross. People with that power are readily available. A subpoena will be forthcoming if this office does not produce those records in the next 5 business days.
Complaints to the Medical Board, the State of Hawaii Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs Complaints Office for Healthcare Professions are next and we will not relent until we have this man’s complete medical records.

Now, all of begs the question of why they refuse to produce those records and why “doctor” Maher does not keep electronic medical records at great expense to himself? Electronic medical records are permanent, cannot be “misplaced” or disappear into a shredder. Is that why this man spends all of that money to not keep electronic medical records in 2021?

People with nothing to hide don’t spend hundreds of thousands per year to keep things hidden.
Perhaps, as I have begun to suspect this man is a …
Well, we'll save that until we see if the records are produced and what they show.

If we are finally able to obtain my friend’s medical records, I will update this review.
